Taggy

August has got off to a good start with a finish. I wonder how many of you guessed what I was actually making. I was inspired to make a Taggy after seeing very pretty baby fabrics, a fat quarter of minky fabric and some ribbons at Quilts UK back in May.

Not sure what a Taggy is? I didn't know until the other day that that was what they were called. I have seen them in baby departments but not a quilted one and thought why not?  They are cuddle blankets, generally fleecy with ribbon tags around the edge that said baby/child can feel and love and it helps them to drop off sleep.

It is  hand pieced and hand quilted. I added the fleecy backing after it had been quilted by bagging the layers out and sandwiching the ribbons around the edge. It does have a little bit of machine quilting just to hold the layers together and measures around 16 inches square.  You would not believe how incredibly soft this little quilt is and I may have to make a giant one for myself.

It is also a good way of using up a lrftover block ot just to try out a favourite block without having to make a large quilt. A most satisfying exercise.

Happy Stitching.

Shirley.

  2. Great idea. I've seen them, but didn't know what they were. Nothing like some pretty hand quilting!

  3. I've made several taggies, and that didn't even cross my mind as your project, seeing your block and those ribbons in the previous post. Silly me. Now it seems so obvious.
Yours is elegant and special. The ones I made were more quickly done, simple and fast. This is going to give a little baby boy pure joy.
