August has got off to a good start with a finish. I wonder how many of you guessed what I was actually making. I was inspired to make a Taggy after seeing very pretty baby fabrics, a fat quarter of minky fabric and some ribbons at Quilts UK back in May.
Not sure what a Taggy is? I didn't know until the other day that that was what they were called. I have seen them in baby departments but not a quilted one and thought why not? They are cuddle blankets, generally fleecy with ribbon tags around the edge that said baby/child can feel and love and it helps them to drop off sleep.
It is hand pieced and hand quilted. I added the fleecy backing after it had been quilted by bagging the layers out and sandwiching the ribbons around the edge. It does have a little bit of machine quilting just to hold the layers together and measures around 16 inches square. You would not believe how incredibly soft this little quilt is and I may have to make a giant one for myself.
It is also a good way of using up a lrftover block ot just to try out a favourite block without having to make a large quilt. A most satisfying exercise.
