New Year, New Word

Over the Christmas period we were kept busy entertaining and eating, being with family and friends and I realised that I felt this overwhelming sense of something that I could not quite define. I realised it was contentment. Just that. Content.

I am making my new word for the year CONTENT.  Whilst I was thinking about this word something popped up on Pinterest with that very word defining it in 21 ways that we crave content. It was meant to be. Right this minute I would just like to hang on to this feeling of peace and happiness and remember it. I have seen wonderful montages of finished projects during 2013 and sadly all I would be able to show would be blank spaces as I reflect on the lack of stitching. There were a few highlights and I did sell my little Alzheimers Quilt and made a baby quilt and even crocheted a couple of baby blankets. There was even a trip to Cowslip which was most enjoyable and a project yet to be finished. This year I hope this blog will be full of CONTENT.

The only stitching I have managed is this bit of knitting. Again a project found on Pinterest and the pattern came via Ravelry. It is a 10 stitch blanket, knitted in rounds. The photo shows the wrong side but I prefer the wrong side. The colours are very sombre for me but I love them and I only have 3 balls so when I run out, that will be the finished size for a little blanket. The yarn is Riot by King Cole. I can buy more but I think it will be more fun just to see what size it ends up. I would make it again. It is a great pick up and put down project.

I thought that I would kick off the New Year with the return of The List.

Some old projects to return to, some to finish, some to advance and a sneaky one to start. Have you spotted it? The one that always gets me into trouble, item number 13, anything else. I have great luck with starting projects so hopefully this year I can show lots of content.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year. May it be a good one.

Happy Stitching.

  1. Content- a great word and glad you have found that niche in your life. I'm sure that little Maise has helped bring that about. I'll look forward to seeing the finished ufo's and new projects at the end of the year.

  2. Ah yes, the dreaded #13. I'm afraid I could pretty much post last year's list and it would look VERY much like this year's list, plus extras. Sigh. 2013 was not a very good year for getting stuff stitched and done. 2014 is going to be better!

    Take care,
    Susan in Texas

  3. Happy New Year Shirley. Contentment - what a wonderful feeling and long may it be with you - a great word for 2014. Love your knitting - what a great pattern! Working through your list is sure to keep you content - lovely projects - especially with a liberal sprinking of #13!! Hugs.

  4. Happy new year! I haven't thought of a word for this year but if I did it might be kiss.. I love making work for myself and need to remember to keep it simple silly :-)

  5. What a great post - and a lovely photo that says it all. 'Contentment' - that is a wonderful end-of-year statement! and may you have the same in spades for 2014. Love the knitting - so soft and cuddly.

  6. content is a pretty good place to be by the looks of it.
Hope you get to work through that list and I think I need to add a number 13 to my list too.
Pretty knitting, the wool looks great
You look very contented in your photo. Here's to a year of contentment!

  7. Dear Shirley,

Happy, peaceful and creative New Year to you!

I am smiling at the happy thought of you being content! Christmas can be the most wonderful time, can't it? When you have the luck of being surrounded by loved ones.

I really cannot understand why I stopped writing lists a while ago. Sometimes I think that writing them takes up some of the precious time I could be spending doing the things on the list instead. I suspect that the birth of my youngest almost four years ago made me more aware that my time was limited. Maybe it's time to start writing lists again!

    Warmest wishes,

  8. I think that "content" is a perfect word. And you should be very happy with what you achieved, don't worry about what didn't happen. Your knitting is beautiful, love the pattern and the colours. Follow your heart to contentment and I shall do the same, after I write my list of course. x

  9. Great photo and you do look contented. Love number 13

  10. Happy New Year dear Shirley, very beautiful pic of you XXX

  11. I'm so happy to read your post, it's so positive and cheerful. I love the photo of you, your hair looks great by the way. I could do with a weekly list or a bomb under me at the moment would be good.

  12. Hi Shirley, I wish you a good and creative new year!
Hopefully with lots of moments of happiness!
    Great picture of you!!!

    Lovely weekend, Evelyne

  13. Great post Shirley! I'm so pleased to read you are feeling content and I hope this feeling stays with you for a very long time. I love the ten stitch blanket and that dreaded number 13 - the number we all have on our lists that gets us into trouble! Lol

  14. So many things go into making you content so it is a great word and that is some list you have outlined. I will look forward to watching your progress but only if you feel content to do so. Love the photo. Happy New Year.

  15. Happy New Year Shirley, may your contentment last throughout 2104.

  16. Love that photo of you - you certainly do look content! That little blanket looks so soft. Love the colors. Content - interesting - can mean different things. Always look forward to your posts. Happy New Year!

  17. Isn't it wonderful to feel so content? I hope it will last for a long time. Happy New Year and good luck with your list!

  18. You have a positive attitude and the drive to start the year right. I think that's a winning combination that will hopefully create a feeling of contentment inside you.
I'm sure we would all benefit if we were content with ourselves as much as possible.
    Happy New year, Shirley.
BTW, I love your selfie. You look very content.
