Elsie

This is my Mum Elsie. She had a tough life and developed Alzheimer's but died suddenly of a heart attack not quite 3 years ago, aged 73. It was a both a shock and a blessing for us, her children not to have to witness the inevitable cruelness of this sad and distressing disease. In what seemed a short space of time she went from this clever lady who fulfilled a lifetime ambition to earn a degree at the age of 60 to not knowing how to switch the computer on, tell the time, use the phone, cook for herself and was going rapidly down hill.

This is my small offering to help raise a little bit of money for this amazing organisation AAQI trying to help raise funds into research and a cure for this terrible illness. I hope someone will take pity on it and love it enough to buy it and give it some wall space. If my little offering is not to your taste then maybe there is another one that you will like.

You will find it at www.alzquilts.org/

It is titled Elsie, measures 9" x 12" and is number 14,789 and costs $40. Postage will be extra.

Thank you to everyone involved for all their efforts and endeavours. It is much appreciated.

Shirley. x

  1. So fulfilling making a little quilt for AAQI. It's been a marvellous project and will have helped so many people.
I can't believe that it's been three years since your mum passed away but at least she is resting without all the turmoil that AZ brings. Take care you will have a new life to focus on and make quilts for soon. X

  3. A lovely quilt Shirley and made with so much love and emotion. It is now 17 years since this dreaded disease finally took my Mum from us so I am always thinking of you and what you must have gone though. Take care.

  4. Alzheimer's is such a dreadful disease for all involved. Your mom sounds like an exceptional woman. (Gives me hope that I can still learn something at my age.) Nice of you to make a quilt for the cause--I'm sure it will find a nice home soon. The colors are so serene and lovely--just seems to glow with the love you had for your mom.

I remember when you posted that your Mum sadly passed away...beautiful lady.
As my DH and family are going down this same journey, I know how devastating it is.
We desperately need more research to fight this vicious disease.

  10. It's hard to believe that it is almost three years since you lost your mother. A lovely little quilt to her memory and also a good way to try to raise funds. So not your normal style but conveys so well the jumbled thoughts and confusion that victims of this terrible disease go through. Well done you xx
