Chateau Hexagon and Anna Levens

It seemed like a good idea at the time to embark on a new Block of the Month project particularly one with the fabulous title of Chateau Hexagon. When my fabrics arrived my heart sank a little because they were in very muted shades and I am more used to stronger, brighter colours which made them appear dull. Needless to say I fell way behind and as Block 8 arrived through the door it was time to take action. Time to put them on the list. The pattern is by Lynette Anderson.

As I have been stitching them the colours have grown on me and I like the delicate shades and I have enjoyed the embroidery. There is a lot of work for the size of the blocks. You will note that there appears to be a bit of space which has been left for a beautiful button to be added once assembled and quilted. You may also be wondering where the hexagons are. All will be revealed.

All the large hexagon blocks of the Anna Levens Quilt by Marg Sampson George are now surrounded by plain cream. I adore this bit of stitching and maybe I like softer shades more than I realise.


Almost at the end of January and I bet you may be wondering how I am doing with the pesky list. Hmm, we shall have to see.

    I can see who you have in mind for your stitchery.
    Sometimes it's good to work in someone else's colour choices it takes us out of our comfort zone.
    The hexagons look fab.

    Dear, lovely Shirley,

    I am pretty much smitten with those beautiful embroidered blocks and also very much in awe of our work. And, oh my goodness, that last picture of the hexagons is stunning.

    Now, be warned, I am getting hooked on patchwork on my very basic level so I will be visiting here with even more interest!

    Your CH is looking lovely Shirley - I picked up block 9 yesterday - I'm afraid I've only done up to #4. Love your Anna Levens work - are they a round of hexies sewn onto the floral fabric (then joined with the garden path)? Beautiful effect!

    don't let that list bother you too much, especially when you are working on these lovely projects.

    I also tend to prefer colors that aren't muted, but there's something so sweet and relaxing about these soft colors you're stitching with. The embroidered pictures are as pretty as can be.

    Beautiful work Shirley and I am sure you are making progress on "the list". Sometimes its nice to flit from project to project and try some colours outside the comfort zone. Take care.

    I think the colours are in the very Japanese muted style which is what I'm noticing about Lynette's work lately. I'm not biased on colour so it's looking lovely to me. I'll be watching those hexies, love, love them

    Lovely soft colours on this post! Changing project colour is as good as a holiday sometimes - refreshing. Love the hexagons :)

    I like those muted shades. I was wondering where the hexes came in but then read that you will reveal!

    The cream really sets off the hexagon flowers so well.

    Congrats on getting 2 blocks done on a project you weren't too thrilled about. I seem to like both muted and bright colors which results in a stash and home dec that goes in all directions! I see, though, that the colorful and muted tones work quite well in your Anna Levens quilt - love it!
